Why the number matters
Friend Count Separates Used Profiles From Parked Ones

A bulk Facebook UID friend lookup returns what looks like one column of integers, but three distinct situations produce something that is not a useful number. Read the status beside each row before you read the row itself.
A number you can act on
The profile exposes its connection count and this is it. As a Facebook account quality signal it is among the strongest available, because it cannot be assembled in an afternoon.
Zero
Either a genuinely unused profile, or one whose owner hid the list. Zero is a real reading of a public surface, not an error, but it does not distinguish those two cases.
A blank with a failed status
The lookup did not complete for that row. Read the status column before treating a blank as evidence about the account, because it usually is not.
A suspiciously round figure
Counts clustering tightly around one value across a batch often indicate accounts built by the same process rather than by use. The pattern across the list says more than any single row.
Privacy settings sit between you and the number. Facebook lets people hide their friend list. When it is hidden, the count is not visible to anyone who is not connected, and no tool reading public surfaces can produce it. A low or absent figure is sometimes a privacy setting rather than an empty profile.
Combining signals

On its own the number is ambiguous. Read against the registration date it becomes a much sharper instrument, because the pair describes a rate rather than a total.
How does the count compare to the age?

Old account, almost no connectionsA profile registered long ago and never used. It carries the age tag without the history the tag implies, and the two tools together are what expose that.
Run the dates first. The registration date lookup has no quota and no charge, so it costs nothing to run the whole delivery through it before spending metered requests here. Doing so tells you which identifiers are worth counting.

Limits
What A Populated Profile Still Does Not Promise
A healthy count is a good sign and not a clearance. These are the things it leaves entirely open.
It does not test the login
The lookup reads a public surface and never uses credentials. A well connected profile can sit behind a password that no longer works.
It does not detect a checkpoint
An account held at an identity check still shows its connections. The count is unaffected by a restriction that makes the account unusable.
It does not measure real relationships
Connections can be accumulated reciprocally between accounts that exist only for that purpose. A large number built that way looks identical here to one built by ordinary use.
